Author Wayne Besen released an explosive letter today by Love In Action's co-Founder and former ex-gay John Evans, which rebukes gay conversion groups saying that they "shattered lives". The group he started has recently made headlines because it runs a boot camp for gay teens called "Refuge" that tries to turn adolescents heterosexual, often against their will.
"In the past 30 years since leaving the 'ex-gay' ministry I have seen nothing but shattered lives, depression and even suicide among those connected with the 'ex-gay' movement," Evans writes in his letter to John Smid, Love In Action's current director. "I challenge Christians to investigate all sides of the issue of being gay and Christian. The Church has been wrong in the past regarding moral issues and I'm sure there will be more before Christ returns."
Thank you so much Wayne for doing this. Your work has saved hundreds of lives, for sure. I am thankful that Evans has spoken out.

Just because one fruit falls off the wagon, doesn't mean the rest of the crop is damaged. Soemthing to think about.
barton it is not just one fruit it is hundreds of thousands of fruit, if you take randy's number of lets say 300,000 ex-gays, and couple that with a 70% failure rate and you have 700,000 who fail to change, honestly would say if you had cancer and the doctor offered to give you a medication but told you that with it you have a 70% chance of dying would you take it, now that is something to think about.

It's great to see someone who has ties with the ex-gay movement coming forward and telling it like it is. He is right about the church being wrong about moral standards. They have been in the past and still are. Organized religion is still based on the patriarch (heterosexual male) being the supreme human. This always has been and always will be complete hogwash. The damage that religion has done and continues to do is appalling and the fact that they get away with it is even more appalling. When highly influential people (ie Dobson, Pope Rats) spew hateful garbage about gays and others, people believe it and form their opinion based on lies and not knowing first hand. I am of the belief that the ex-gay movement is 100% failure rate because a trait that is hard wired and completely natural for the person experiencing it, is unchangeable. All these "cured" people are doing is being shamed to going back into the closet. Tim W.

The fear of the liars, the self hating "ex-gays" is obvious... I love that! It is the duty of EVERY self respecting gay human being to ensure that the lies and dirthy tactics of the "ex-gays" (?) come out to light. If an individual is infected with self hate and don't want to face his or her homosexuality because of other issues, probably related to lack of self love, does not mean that they have to spread their views as a cancer. Evans may potentially damage a lot of people because of his collaboration with the so called christians, but by doing this, he may start to seek redemption. That is what I call fear of God!

How can anyone can be ex-gay? that is the most ridicule, moronic, stupid and self-hating thing I have ever heard.
Why the so called "ex-gays" don't speak up when it is time for it? Why do you people (yes you so called "ex-gays") don't come out and say what happen inside the brain washing camps? Because you are affraid of being confronted and having no arguments! Shame on you! If you inflict that kind of masochistic pain on you, do it! but don't confuse other inocent people!
