This week, Salon is featuring a four-part investigation into the Christian netherworld of "reparative therapy," a disputed practice to convert gays and lesbians into heterosexuals. Reporter Mark Benjamin will detail the loose network of Christian ministries and social workers, with the blessing of the political right, that are putting gays and lesbians on the couch, determined to "cure" them. This is a "can't miss" series and I urge my friends to check it out.

These "Christian" ministries are getting way too much media attention, what they crave the most. I hope the reporter has the guts to expose this b**ls**t for what it is and doesn't slant the story in favour of these frauds. Should be interesting. Tim W.

u know what this stuff did for me? gave me a broken home and 3 kids who go back in forth between thier gay dad(me)and their mom. Thanks to a fundie church that pushed me into marriage, a broken home is what happened-so much for "protecting" marriage! At least I am out now and happy with my partner of 8 years!

Salon has liberal enough reporters that it's likely this will be a better recent article than we've seen in a mainstream journal. The graphic used to illustrate the article is very telling. And points out the main prejudice that fuels ex gay supporters.
I have tried hard to reach ex gay supporters, the 'experts' or 'research and studies' they cite and none are honest or willing to dialogue about the real reasons for their existence. They never deal with it. Just refer you to the Bible or some ex gay material they are selling. Warren Throckmorton dismissed my inquiries, then referred my to his Christian music CD. Wayne, has ALWAYS been able to talk on the phone, so has John Corvino (Independent Gay Forum). Bishop Simpson graciously answers my emails and engages in honest dialogue and never tries to sell me something. Even though Wayne has a book out, he's never told me to buy it before we can have a conversation. Ex ex gays are a lot more accessible and I think this fosters far more honesty about their goals.
Ex gays are so cagey and so many of them were such basket cases before they 'escaped' homosexuality, how could they possibly know when they ran to another closet where they'd get the validation they've been craving so much. The thing about closets, is once the door is shut...the light is off.
