George W. Bush yesterday confirmed that he is an embarrassment by expressing his support for so-called
"intelligent Design" to be taught in
classrooms. This "theory" is an empty PR gimmick that is intelligently designed to let hillbilly Creationsists slip their sectarian agenda into the schools. The slippery idea is to teach the same old unconstitutional creationism, but invent a legal loophole and make it appear to be science by changing the name and not outright saying that it is God who did the creating. This is cynical sophistry of the worst kind. By not directly mentioning God, do they think we are going to assume that Frank Gehry was the architect of the solar system? Most important, if Bush saw Intellegent Design, how would he know it?
Meanwhile, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, is going to appear at a
neo-Puritan rally in support of the Supreme Court nomination of John Roberts. If there is one thing that makes me think FILIBUSTER, it is Tom DeLay teaming up to support Roberts with Focus on the Family's James Dobson, Charles Colson of Prison Fellowship Ministries and the Eagle Forum's Phyllis Schlafly. There are many moderates sitting on the fence, who had no idea the fence was made of barbed wire, until they saw this line-up of supporters. Perhaps Colson, a convicted felon, can give DeLay some tips on how to get by in prison, in case he is sent away to the hoose gow for corruption in the next couple of years.

Look, we voted for them, now we must shut up and live with them. The time to bitch was at the voting booth. More of them showed up. We lost. End of story. Maybe we will have our shit together in 2008. Until then, America is destined to suffer, and we earned this.

Ben, have to agree with you on that one. The dems have still not managed to get their act together and probably won't in time for the next election. We need a good dose of civil unrest to get their attention. Its a two-way street, the elected take the electorate for granted too! Too bad! Another four years of this regime and what that portends makes one shudder to think. It seems that the electorate likes the idea of religion in politics, look who put them there, the majority, some democrats too! We're fighting an uphill battle now that the supreme court is soon to be "fixed" once and for all in their favor. Our fate is sealed.

Well, in a Democracy, if the government dosn't work, it can always be impeached. Ask Mr. Nixon. Once I was told that people voted Republican, because of the whole homeland security Mambo-Jambo. All that the patriot's act have been useful for is for granting the government the freedom to persecute all progressive things and to get their nooses in people's private bussiness. The whole war on stuff is a religios battle, a battle to impose views. People can stop it by holding their other elected officials accountable for protecting their civil and human rights, including freedom of expression, press (no long ago PBS was under attack)Creed, (what's with the Ten Commandments stuff? and now this!?)and so on. The congress and other legislators have to hear people's concerns. Meanwhile, just like in the 70's and 80's when no one listen, then people have to go back to the streets! in the 70's the anti war protests made proud many, and in the 80's even when Mr. Reagan completelly ignored the fact that people were dying of AIDS, because of those who took an active role, someone, at some point listen!

The Dems ARE finally getting their act together, it cant be fixed overnight. Liberal talk radio is exploding and people like Al Franken and Ed Schultz are beating the pants off of Limbaugh and those other lying dick-heads in the ratings. Dems have also FINALLY learned how to frame the debates and use words and language that can stir and move people to the left point of view. The resounding defeat of bush's social security plan had a lot to do with how the dems succeeded in getting people to use words like privitization. The neo-cons tried to switch mid-stream and use words like personal accounts which sounds more palitable, but it was too late. The republikkkans also made a poor choice when they used 'nuclear option'. There was a cover story on this whole thing in the NY Times sunday magazine several weeks ago. Your local public library should still have it (if they get the NY Times).
Please dont be defeatist, the tide is changing; now we just have to find a way to stop the republikkkans from stealing more and more elections!
