As California gays and lesbians ratchet up pressure to get Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to change his mind on vetoing gay marriage legislation conservatives are voicing their displeasure at his explanation for turning down the measure.
For a change, these conservatives have a point. The governor's flawed reasoning is twisted and his actions cowardly. He is making no Republican friends by opposing marriage equality. And he is losing liberal and moderate friends in L.A. who he will have to face for the rest of his steroidal life when he returns home.

I live here in Mexifornia and Gov. S true colors are revealed, he's as inept and cowardly as the rest of the elected officials of this state.
I recently had a wonderful online exchange with an LA Times writer who was covering the marriage legislation meeting and it changed his mind in favor of allowing marriage for gay people. However, where the most profound human rights decisions have been made, regarding women's equality, marriage parity, integration, voting rights and justice for people of color and Jews...have ALL been made by the courts, NOT popular vote.
Gays and lesbians are a perpetual minority, which would stack the public decisions for their concerns from the start.
Moral high ground starts from a level field, and it requires taking the hike and wearing the shoes (with a pebble in it) of a persecuted brother, not persecuting him all over again because it's easy. Taking risks and understanding the commitment to justice is the way up. Jesus knew it, Buddha knew it, Mohammed knew it and Moses knew it.
The new ad hoc disciples that claim religious literacy on the issues of GAY PEOPLE ONLY....reveal their cowardice and how they mock the laws of empathy and compassion.
I'm so NOT impressed when a discussion about gays and lesbians comes up and the most bigoted filth falls from the mouths of avowed Christians in particular. I'm not impressed, I know you for what you really are. And if I were you, I wouldn't be speaking for Jesus...he, of all...was not impressed by such behavior either.

Thank you for making this point so crystal clear - the Right continues their campaign against 'activist judges', railing against the so-called 'judicial activism' of the courts today [nevermind that SCOTUS has more appellates appointed for life by GOP Presidents than Democratic - oops].
Civil Rights advances have been handed down by the courts. I grew up in southern Georgia and believe me if left to the general populace to decide issues such as segregation, free access to the polls, marriage between the races ... this list can go on ad naseum ... My african american brothers and sisters would still be in entangled in Jim Crow chains in states like Georgia, Alabama and lets not forget Lousiana. It took the power of the Judiciary to finally say ... some things cannot be left to the masses to decide ... some things are just the Right thing to do!
The right knows this and for this reason we are seeing an attack of the judiary.
