ENRIGHT SPEAKS: 'PRIEST DID NOT MAKE ME GAY'

Earlier this month, I wrote a disturbing column on J. David Enright IV, a New York man who The New York Post claimed was suing the Catholic Church for $5 million because a priest that molested him supposedly turned him gay. I interviewed Mr. Enright and he now claims that the Post got it wrong, saying he was "devastated" by the article.

"I'm a proud gay man. I'm out to do good."

Indeed, Mr. Enright has had his hand in gay issues in the past, usually behind the scenes. I have obtained his letter to the Editor that he sent to The New York Post. Here is the text:

Dear Editor,

I wish to make it perfectly clear that I never said or implied that Father Joseph Romano "made me gay." My issues with Father Romano and the Holy Roman Catholic Church are considerably larger.

Although the New York Post reporter, in a two-three hour taped interview, made every effort to sensationalize the story by blaming Father Romano for my sexual preference, he ignored my true response to this matter. I said: I don't believe that the finest psychiatrist in the world could responsibly say that Romano "made me gay."
I am taped stating this twice. I admit that Romano may have caused an important introduction to such deviate behavior given his acts and stature at the time.

There exists far more significant blame on Romano for pedophilia and his collar and subsequent continued cover-up by a knowing Bishop.

I spoke to a source at The New York Post who stands by the story. In any case, I think this is a story worthy of further examination. It is good to see that Mr. Enright has publicly clarified that he does not believe the myth that pedophilia causes homosexuality. He also says that:

"I abhor everything that the Religious Right stands for and it would break my heart to see them twist my words to hurt a movement that I have been a part of."

Mr. Enright says he is suing because of the sexual abuse, not because the priest made him gay. "I want to counter this misconception," he told me. I'm glad that Mr. Enright has moved forward and taken key steps to clear his name and get to the bottom of his lawsuit.

Hey Besen,

I am sick and tired of the fact that all you do is preach about homosexuality. I don't care if you're gay and I don't care how you live your life, but you seem to want everyone approve of you or, in the alternative, you want anyone who views your lifestyle as distasteful to be discredited. Grow up. You obviously have major psychological issues and need immediate treatment. I'll give you the first lesson at no price: Stop ranting like a child about the issue of homosxusality. The only reason its an issue is because you keep yapping about it to everyone else. You're gay, be proud of that, live your lifestyle and stop degrading your sexual orientation by highlighting these shithead right wing homophobes who compose about 2% of the population. For continued therapy, I recommend Dr. Shelly Menoloscino in the village off 6th Ave.

There needs to be less talk and more action, bitching about these people won't change things only it will make us all look like asses, What we need to do is stop trying to convince the right that we need to be accepted, and reach out to those moderates out there who haven't made up there mind due to lack of evidence, show them that the right wing is full of shit and the right will lose all support from moderates, which compose 1/3 of all americans.

I respectfully disagree with Anonymous' post above.

Although I see your point, Wayne is an activist and is very detail oriented about issues that arise in the media that distort the truth about the nature of sexual orientation.

That is his job - that is what he does - he is a gay activist.

He wants to make changes and inorder to do so you need to point out the untruths and distortions that are told about gay peole everyday in the media, and other public forums.

It may seem annoying but I think it is very important otherwise lies just linger out there and people will believe them.

Afterall - this WAS a front page story in the NY Post.

Hi Wayne, I disagree with Anonymous, too. This issue (with the Roman Catholic Church as reported in the Post) is more about truth and accuracy in reporting and isn't an indication that you are somehow emotionally ill or obsessed with the topic of sexual orientation. I know from personal experience that, in 2005, some people still continue to target LBGTQ persons for discrimination and violence (or even murder -- a gay friend of mine was murdered in 1999). People who perpetrate these acts of intolerance and violence are frequently the product of a personal formation which has involved being fed, over time, a distorted and bigoted understanding and profile of people with different sexual orientations. This truth was reinforced to me when I sat through the trials of the two men who killed my friend in 1999 and learned about their personal histories and the distorted and unenlightened viewpoints they held. Continuing truthful and accurate discourse about the place of LBGTQ persons in American society is very helpful and even beneficial in terms of our quest, as Americans, to create a more just and fair society for ALL people. To borrow verbage from ACT UP, I equate silence on this topic with death. Thanks, Wayne, for keeping this conversation going. Wayne, I like you (perhaps we need to tell one another that more often). Thank you for the work you do. No one should be afraid of the truth. No one should be afraid of you (or should pathologize you) exercising your Constitutional right to free speech on any topic you choose (especially when the religious and political right, exercising their own First Amendment rights, in this country attack LBGTQ persons daily). Interesting after reading your rant to Wayne Besen ... where you instructed him that he should seek therapy ... I opened my email and found this from the HRC:

Yes I have one, is that until Gay Americans do not have to put up with this type of BS, and until we can expect 1st Class citizenship in this so-called Free Society - then it takes activist like Wayne Besen to stand up speak out and be heard! (Of course we should all be doing our part as well)

By the way, would you have offered the same advice to Rosa Parks way back when ... when she was brave enough to act-up and speak out? Or would you have told her that she should've kept her mouth shut ... that the majority of white southerners did not want to hear about her problem and that afterall the majority have spoken so therefore she must be wrong ... not the system. Would you have told her to shut up and seek counseling and just "sit in the back of the bus like a good girl"?

There is the lawsuit David lost in San Francisco Superior Court. He conned a woman out of $50,000 to cover his moving costs from SFO to New York. We sure do not miss him.

The settlement dated April 22, 2004 is for $50,000, interest at 7% of $7715 for a total of $58,180.

David is at 405 East 54th. #12-b, NY, NY 10022.

A good atorney could try and collect this amount.

All of this can be viewed on line at San Francisco City Website for free.

There are many other lawsuits that David launched. Roy Cohn trained him well. He was a Roy boy from the start.

(He owed a drug store $12,000 and then there were the false gold stock shares of Mr. Requa.)

Just the facts:

1. Working for and procuring for Roy M. Cohn in the early 1970’s in Miami and New York.

2. Living in S.F. in 1976 and making social friends. He is very good at that! Especially with old widows with money.

3. He did start his own agency in New York but it was more that David Merrick set it up than David Enright did it. Merrick never had a son and liked David. Later he had a breakdown and went to
that place in Connecticut.

4. He was run out of New York as a fake and went to the Hamptons to sell real estate there with the big gay realtor. He abused people there and had to retreat to Albany.

5. In Albany he published a Blue Book once and collected money for the second that was never published. Here he got his AIDS Social Security Disability. In 1989 I went to see him as I was worried. He told me he was moving to San Francisco.

6. Here he lived a very active gay life. He was always broke and shaking down people for money. I was included. He would ask you to dinner and then at end say he needed $2,000 for his health care premium. Other things:
a. He sued his landlord on Russian Hill to get money. Roy had taught to sue anyone.

b. He got a group of friends to raise money for his health and spent it on an old Mercedes!

c. He got friends to give him a birthday party at a private club.

d. One of the best was selling with others Gold Shares. The man behind it was Hoover’s partner’s son (Steven Requa) who had maps of where gold was. Got to know Nancy Hammon this way. It was all a bust. Some of the elite of SF lost a lot of money.
e. At the end he had no friends except widows. He got one to give him $50,000 to move back to New York. I do not know her name. She needs this money badly and has to sue him in New York Courts.

f. He sued his landlord at 1899 California for not putting him up at Huntington while roof was being done as this impacted his AIDS status.

The refernces to "false gold shares of Mr. Requa" is erroneous. David Enright and his gaggle of Vancouver stock fraudsters sold some fictitious shares in Requa's company which he didn't even know about and when Requa made complaints about it they resorted to criminal means to destroy Requa and his company. THAT's why some people ended up losing their shares in Requa's company: because it got wrecked by some professional crooks in league with Enright. But Requa has given them the end run and beaten them. Those shareholders who were loyal to him and honest have had their shares restored to them in a new company and they have found a big new vein on the same mining property they got back after the crooks themselves bombed out. Requa was a victim of Enright. They were not fellow crooks.

David Enright, obviously, is not a 'scion' of the Van Rencalear family or the De La Grange.

He is also estrange from his 2 brothers who are gay as well.

Who are his parents? What is his heritage?

David is 100% IRISH CATHOLIC.

The Van Renssalaer's are Dutch Reformed. They are not related. David wanted some old Van Renssalaer guy to adopt him. When his lawyer wanted a retainer that was over.

He did add the Van Rensselaer crest to his stationery which has caused much merriment in gay and straight circles!!!!!!!

The Social Register

It has always been very important for David to be in the Social Register. HE IS NOT AND NEVER HAS BEEN.

His parents on either side were not or he would be the way it works. You can check this out if you care at some libraries. But, take my word for it.

I am told that in the 1970's David got the Coolidges of Boston to sponsor him for the Social Register. He listed that he went to Williams College, the prestigious liberal arts school in Massachusets! Dumb! Unlike employers and schools, the Social Register checks EVERY detail.

They told the Coolidges about this fraud. That was the end of that friendship I am told.

I have reviewed David's financial needs and a group of us are banding together to create maintenance funding for David. We are doing this because, obviously, he is dear to us but more importantly, with the continuing release of new drugs, he may survive.

We are appealing to a handful of David's friends who might be able to make a realtively modest monthly contribution towards his welfare. Specifically our hopes are for a $300 to $500 monthly gift or an equivalent annual amount to be held in a fund that would be placed in a tax free money market fund and that would be distrubiuted to David on a monthly basis.

A giving level of say $300 a month is $3,600 per annum. I am advised by the IRS that any gift up to $10,000 need not be reported to them.

David has investigated every avenue toward attaining financial stability and has been relatively unsuccessful - especially with his family who unfortuantely continue to practice benight neglect towards his condition and its financial obligations. Something constructive has to be done at this juncture.

Just heard on a transatlantic flight that the rumor in SF and NYC is that the Gold Shares scam of Enright was really a mafia smokescreen so Enright and Phil Steveson could do a court fraud with the help of Ralph Requa so they could steal the Hoover files on gold mines from Ralphs brother Stephen. Supposedly all the mafia stuff is coming out in a book.

When one calls his former NYC number, Enright's new number is provided a referral. The number is freely given as 518-436-1430. Shouldn't this be considered public information. Call him and try to recoup your money from this scamster.

I’ve been researching things about Enright with MANY things turning up: first, that the message posted here above of a letter from PFS on Jackson Street in San Francisco was in fact from Philip Fay Stevenson (in 1992) who dropped dead a few years ago just as some revelations were emerging about his deep involvement in a gay crime syndicate in San Francisco. They were manipulating shares in companies on the Vancouver Stock Exchange. They had a network of “nominees” to illegally manipulate share prices by buying and selling restricted shares. It was part of a classic “pump and dump” routine of white collar criminals. It appears to have had real ties to organized crime, and it was tied into a San Francisco brokerage firm. It was also connected to some very rich Republicans who were making a lot of money from the rackets.

Enright and Stevenson were then as close as bread and butter and got enmeshed in—if they did not actually instigate--the scheme to steal the Hoover files on gold properties so that the racketeers could base a whole new series of Vancouver companies on some of these properties to pump and dump them. It combined Vancouver Mafia with securities firms in Vancouver and San Francisco, along with some very rich Republicans.

Then enter Senator Newton Requa Russell, who may soon be nominated for the Mark Foley and Dennis Hastert award for High Republican Ethics. It appears that after instigating an investigation on these racketeers at their San Francisco brokerage firm, Senator Russell (R) then pulled the plug on it and sabotaged the investigation after finding out that the crime syndicate included a lot of rich Republicans. Russell was then Minority Whip of the California State Senate and was the right-hand man of Governor Pete Wilson. Who the rich Republicans were with Mob ties might possibly by indicated by Greg Palast’s articles on George Bush Sr. and Barrick Gold. Read his “The Best Government Money Can Buy” or plug in on a search to Barrick and George Bush.

Anyway, with Enright’s ties to Roy Cohn (see above postings), it might prove interesting and very productive to trace right-wing Republican ties with the Mob and to allied gay crime syndicates. J.Edgar Hoover was a case in point: a closet gay who persecuted other gays while carrying on with his lover, Clyde Tolson who was assistant FBI Director--while they were heavily tied in with many of the biggest Mafia dons: Paul Castelano, Carlos Marcello, Meyer Lansky, etc. See Anthony Summers’ The Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover.

All this should be grist for a Democratic Congressional Investigation that should focus on Russell’s communications with Enright and Stevenson, the California investigation that got suppressed, and what role FBI agent Steve Collins (formerly of Utah and recently of Pennsylvania) might have had in all this. Russell and Enright should be subpoened.

　　心中一阵不安升降机，因为我忽然又想起了那道剑光升降平台，可怕的剑光升降台，美丽的剑光登车桥。为什么那一剑是那么的美丽货架，却又那么的可怕呢集装袋？在我倒下之前我说地磅，好美的剑塑料托盘，好恨的剑塑料托盘。我倒下了仓储笼。在我失去知觉之前仓储笼，我听到他说北京货架，这叫艺术超市货架，剑的艺术北京货架。

　　高手的悲哀太阳伞。
　　我握紧了刀桥架，我看着他的眼tpr，已经不再像十年前那样明亮了钢丝。
