Focus on the Family's James C. Dobson predicted on his radio program that allowing same-sex marriage in the United States would lead to "group marriage," "marriage between daddies and little girls," or "marriage between a man and his donkey." Maybe he came up with this idea by asking his wife what she thought about this issue. She did, after all, marry a genuine ass.

He is an extremist nutjob. Absolutely pathetic. Notice how often conservatives talk about marry beasts? Somehow I think that is what they really want.
I'm always amazed how the neocons always make the leap to beastiality myself -- but also as facinating is the fact that plural marriage is prevalent throughout their bible and yet they lump it right along side beastiality as if they are somehow logically and morally connected.
The whole "(2) consenting adults" concept is well out of reach for these folks.
How is it possible that someone with all of Dobson's obvious cleverness can't see that CONSENT is necessary in a marriage, and children and animals cannot give legal consent to a legally binding contract such as marriage?
And why doesn't anyone say that heterosexual marriage is a slippery slope leading to plural marriages, incest, and bestiality? If the fact of two consenting adults entering a contract leads to such things, then ALL marriage would lead to bestiality.
Such unbelievably unrealistic and insulting arguments! It amazes me that 5 million people take these things seriously enough to be members of FOCUS and similar groups.
Segregationists unabashedly would describe marriages between blacks and whites with the same analogies. Many whites thought blacks inferior and racists that blacks weren't much higher than chimpanzees in temprament and sexual restraint. Ho hum.... Now Dobson uses animal (i.e. 'uncivilized and savage') analogies to criticize marriage between gay people. I am crafting a Supreme Court speech as we speak for the justices to hear on marriage between gay people. If you'd like me to post it here. Let me know. I am keeping it brief. James Dobson doesn't know any gay people. He considers gay people a subspecies of human being. He disregards gays and lesbians with far more social grace, courage and moral principles than HE has. He is tiresome....and so are the others with that undeserved superiority complex so evident in segregationists. The principles of equal treatment under the law requires that we as citizens engage with what all our fellow citizens do freely and legally.
He doesn't designate in his rants what is ethically sound among ALL citizens and abuses no one else in the process. Considering he's an insider on judicial picks, even over the Senate judiciary committee, his privilege is troubling. And his arrogance is swelled by that.
A member of SCOTUS cannot possibly be as prejudiced as Dobson himself, that is against the law. The Constitutional legal protection for a non criminal minority is already being broken.
Jim Crow laws weren't good for blacks,or ANYONE- and our society has NEVER fully recovered from that outrage.
If he thinks revisiting that for gays and lesbians is healthy for society too...only a white man who didn't get so educated wouldn't have any empathy for any human being subject to anything even suggesting Jim Crow laws at all.

Regan - You're right, those WERE the arguments against interracial marriage a couple generations ago. Some people are slow learners I guess!
Now, Dobson himself says he has interviewed hundreds of gay people. . .and it's scary to read his books (I've read parts of them) because some of what he says is either true, or very close to the truth, but then he departs from that into false 'explanations' as to why homosexuals are inferior beings. No matter who is arguing or how, against same sex marriage, if you follow the argument long enough it always degenerates into the ridiculous. . .usually with a blatant statement that gays are not as good as "normal" people.
Sure, I would be interested in reading your speech!
It is completely baffling to me how Dobson got to be such a political insider - I guess because he has so much money??? Focus is a mutl-million dollar business. Unbelievably dangerous.
Gay Marriage will lead to marrying donkeys? Hummm, I don't own a donkey and I don't know many people who do own one BUT I just wonder how his Ass of a wife must feel because of his assinine comment...
I saw a book in the library (sorry forget the title) but it was written by an ex insider who worked with Dobson. It was an expose' on how nutty and dangerous he is. It said he was filled with inner rage (no surprise there--what do you expect from someone who supports beating children) and also that he was a big racist (i bet he keeps that under wraps) and of course a greedy money grubbing con artist. NSS (No shit Sher.)

It's clear Ms. Dobson already married a 'jackass', so the Donkey bit is old hat thanks to him! Maybe he's talking about his son? His boy looks like a leather daddy, and sounds like a leather lady!
