All eight members up for re-election to the Pennsylvania school board that had been sued for introducing the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in biology class were swept out of office by a slate of challengers who campaigned against the intelligent design policy.
Among the losing incumbents on the Dover, Pa., board were two hillbilly members who testified in favor of the intelligent design policy at a recently concluded federal trial on the Dover policy: the chairwoman, Sheila Harkins, and Alan Bonsell.
These jerks think God intervenes and personally talks to them every day. I wonder what the Lord had to say today as their butts were booted from office for supossedly advancing His word? Maybe He said that "evolution is part of my plan and if we get rid of real science the human race will never evolve." Or, maybe God is more crass and after stuffing the ballot box said, "Take that assholes!"
Unfortunately, I didn't get to gloat very long before the yahoos in Kansas rained on my evolution parade. The disgraceful laughing stock Kansas Board of Education actually voted 6 to 4 to change the definition of science, so they could teach creationism under the guise of Intelligent Design. They think we are falling for the semantic trick, but since most of us haven't been educated in Kansas, it is a little harder to fool us.
Why is the Kansas Board of Brainwashing so determined to make Kansas kids the stupidest in the world? There needs to be a recall election to throw these ignorant clowns out of office before they vote 6 to 4 to redefine reality. Or, maybe they already have?

Truly, Kansas is the epitomy of the dumbing-down of America, closely followed by Texas. Its obvious democracy in our society has been hijacked by religious zealots aided and abetted by Bush and his ilk.
Anyone, in America has the freedom to attend a religious school, have prayer or Bible study at home, or freely associate with like minded individuals who want to discuss the origins of our species and it's illustration in holy writ.
Education, whether public or private is MANDATORY. Public schools are obligated to give age appropriate instruction on specific information, which does not have to INCLUDE creationism as a fact. It isn't a fact, it's the way those who wrote the Bible happened to think our world came into being. Hindus think another way, Taoists or Druids do too.
The writers of the Bible were all men, and then they didn't know where babies came from and that the world was flat. How much stock can you put into that book anyway? It's a chronicle, not an INSTRUCTION book for everybody.
This is scary, this is REALLY scary. There are alternatives to religion in public schools, and I"m sick of these Bible beaters behaving as if there isn't.
Religious life, is a freedom, not a rule all society must live by. The more anxiety our country has from religious terrorism all over the world, the more they think the way to respond to it is to have the same illogical and rigid religious ideology is dangerous.
Cooler, moderate, more secualar heads must prevail, or the Crusades is starting all over again-except this time with thermo nuclear weapons.

Oops, I see my grammatical error above. I meant to say that the Bible writers didn't know where babies came from, and they BELIEVED the world was flat. The Vatican imprisoned Galileo, among others, who made a scientific breakthrough. It was centuries before his discovery was allowed to be common knowlege. Similar to how quietly the fact that we're not 'RACES' according to color, but that we are a SINGLE race. Blacks and whites are in FACT the SAME RACE. But a racist wouldn't want to believe it.
This is similar to the denial that homosexuality is NORMAL. Precisely because there are no genetic or physical anamolies or distinctions. Where there is a lack of distinctions, scientists call that NORMAL. But homophobes don't want to believe that either.
So all this goes to show is, religious people don't want to BELIEVE something is true, even if it is and they are confronted with evidence, not just opinion. Yes, these are dangerous times. The first thing those who are power hungry want to do, is keep the masses ignorant, fearful and unable to obtain facts and evidence contrary to their beliefs.

Has anyone considered that both (prior) Dover PA and (current) Kansas Boards are proof that we do not neccessarily evolve???
Evolve upwards, I mean.
The original authors of the bible were learned men, for their time. I wonder what they would make of people who turned their best guess into cast iron Truth. I wonder how they would have written Genesis if they were alive today.
We're all forgetting something folks. These are the same people, including Bush, who claim that their god speaks to them. So I'm assuming he, she or it has, I'd sure like some proof on a lot of issues wouldn't you?
Who the hell does that school board think they are CHANGING the definition of science?!?! They dont have the credentials to change anything! Frank Baum was very prescient when he placed the "Wizard of Oz" in Kansas. If they only had a brain! Gary (NJ)

The Kansas decision is proof positive that ID is not science. To get it in they had to literally change the definition of science.
