The Vatican newspaper said on Tuesday that homosexuality risked "destabilizing people and society", had no social or moral value and could never match the importance of the relationship between a man and a woman.
"It (homosexuality) does not represent a social value and even less so a moral virtue that could add to the civilization of sexuality," Anatrella said. "It could even be seen as a destabilizing reality for people and for society."
As I said in my column below, if you are Catholic and stay with the Church, you are the abused wife running back to her husband. I know it is never easy to cut ties with a religious institution. But if you care about the future of your church, the best thing you can do is leave in protest. There are many supportive denominations, so why give your money and perspiration to a church that thinks you are a second class citizen.

Once again the church is full of shit. On the purely sexual level we know from science that sex is simply good for your health both psychologically and physically and for homosexuals, it's either same sex partners or nothing at all. Priests who remain true to their vowels of celibacy are also prone to more prostate diseases for obvious reasons. And, more importantly, gays and lesbians as PEOPLE, have contributed just as much to society, if not more so, than many heterosexuals. The church, with their sick, neurotic beliefs and attitudes about human sexuality only see gay people as sexual 'things' instead of complete human beings who just happen to have a homosexual orientation. Wayne, that is one of the many reasons I renounced my catholicism many years ago. I'm no longer a believer but that's another story.
I've had issues with the history and establishment of the Vatican for all kinds of reasons.
1. Lack of women's participation in the writing of the Bible. So I find the Bible highly suspect right there.
2. No women priests. Not only no women priests, but the outrage of the Magdalene Laundrys. Hard labor prisons where women suspected of any sexual impropriety were forced to work, attend church and confession, locked down without going outside of the laundry, isolated from their families and friends, and also forced to give up any children born out of wedlock for adoption. This ONLY happened to females. The men they were raped by, flirted with or engaged in premarital sex with...got no such treatment.
3. Most of the victims of the Grand Inquisition who were classified as heretic, unclean, witches or socially disordered...were women.
4. This systemic disrespect for homosexuals and homosexual priests in particular, is just resurfacing as a convenient way to dissuade from the true failures of the Church. There are such things with sexual neutrality (non procreative sex, monosexuality), or issues of negative sexuality universal to both orientations, or unique to homosexuals without the singular result (conception). The accounts recorded in the Bible, were by a presumed heterosexual, with no knowledge or understanding of homosexuality himself. He simply made an observation and stated an opinion. Using this as the standard by how gay people are to be treated, is as outrageous as the standards by which women were treated for centuries in and since Biblical times.

Regan, I totally concur. The fact that the bible, quran, torah, were all written by men is evidence of the infallibility of much of what these books espouse. They are all flawed and often contradictory works mostly aimed at heterosexuals, not gays. They were written by imperfect men in an imperfect world in the name of a perfect socalled divinity, reason enough to disregard the literal interpretation of their contents. To this day, religious leaders still claim that god speaks to them directly including none other than Bush. Heterosexual men are responsible for screwing up this planet, wars, famines, human rights violations, you name it and are no different than those in biblical times, nothing has changed. Every morning I wake up, I thank my lucky stars I was born gay. I would not choose to be an heterosexual male for all the tea in China and would do it all over again if I had to.

The Church said the same thing about Interaccial marriage many years ago. Do these people not learn from history or their prior mistakes?
Gay marriage does not do society any good? How about the good it does gay individuals?
The problem is that the right wing does not seem to understand that a person is born gay. They seem to think that being gay is a choice and if gay marrigae is allowed more people will "choose" to be gay.
The more educated ones KNOW it's not a choice, but they have to maintain that it is, in order to justify their discrimination. I wish the science and medical communities would come down from their ivory towers and start speaking out against this propaganda bullshit. They've barely been forceful in countering the anti-evolution crap. I dont know why people always feel like that have to walk on eggshells when dealing with religious assertions. If they have so much TRUTH, it should be able to stand up under the light of reason, rationality and science. Especially when they want to inject it into the public schools.
