(This Man Had A Good Shave)

If you shave, like I do, you have often wondered how many blades are enough? I use the Mach 3, but now they have The Schick Quattro and the upcoming Big Daddy razor, The Gillette Fusion, with five blades. If you cut yourself with this razor, is it suicide???

My friend Nick "Razor" Burns wrote about the multi-blade conundrum in the today's New York Times . I do hope they perfect the razor, because I am tired of cutting myself. I recently went ot a National Lesbian and Gay Journalist's Association holiday party and cut myself beforehand. I bled the entire time. At least I made an impression (though not the one I wanted).

So, for the sake of us all - I hope one of these designer razors actually works - and serves a purpose other than making these companies more money.

Now Wayne, you know in Leviticus it says you're not supposed to cut your beard or the hair on your temples (i guess legs and pits are fair game). Therefore Gilette and the rest of these pagan companies are helping america to commit abominations and should be boycotted. I believe there is/was a Gilette Stadium in New Orleans; that's the real reason for God's wrathful hurricane Katrina. I'm surprised pat robertson didnt think of that one!

Gary, I loved your comments, and I'm still laughing. Its about time the razor companies invented a gel/cream that removes facial hair instead of using blades. If women can have armpit hair removed by this simple, quick method, then they should develop a product for men.

Gary! Is it that you are going to start "Unshaved men of America for the truth"!? Finally someon eis going to talk about the dangers that shaving pose to our youth! The question is, Will someone going to start a "Ex-shaved Ministry" with brain washing facilities and the whole nine yards?

After Schick retired a designer razor I liked some years ago, and stopped making the blades for it, I got fed up. It just seemed like whenever the razor companies wanted me to buy a new razor, they'd just stop making the blades for the old one.

So I did a little digging around online and found a place that sold brand new German made razors that take the old standard double-edged blades. Believe it or not, they've actually been improving them over the years. The one I bought is solid stainless steel with the head twisted slightly which makes handling it easier (Merkur makes it).

It took me a few tries to master it (unlike the designer razors the old double edges are noticeably top heavy), but now I get a shave that's as good as anything I ever got with the designer razors, and I'm not locked into one company's blades.

So I'm out of that rat race now. And it seems none too soon because...jeeze...the new designer razors just keep looking more and more idiotic every year it seems, and it's hard to shave while you're wincing with embarrassment.
