Columnist Leonard Pitts Jr., one of America's greatest columnists, said that he thinks that "God Hates Fags" reverend Fred Phelps is gay. I happen to agree. His nutty and is an extreme example of the eventual insanity that comes from those who live a lie. According to Pitts:
"Allow me to share with you an epiphany. I think Fred Phelps is gay. Not that I'd have any way to know for sure, and not that there's anything wrong with that. But it seems obvious to me that Freddie has spent a little time up on Brokeback Mountain, if you catch my drift. I'm thinking he's secretly into show tunes, interior decorating and man-sized love."
I couldn't have said it better myself.

A real possibility. With a bible full of sins he could go after and he picks the 3 sections that supposedly deal with gays, and goes after it with an insane vengence. If this were ever proven, Phelps would go down in history and the second most pathetic self-loather, next to Hitler. At any rate, Phelps is a disgrace to religion and his fellow human beings.

He looks like "Preacher Kane" from Poltergeist 3. Actually, I have always had the feeling that Fred Phelps was probably molested as a child by a male pedophile and is taking it out on gays (displaced anger). But I could be wrong.

Whether Phelps is gay or straight, he is insane. Where in the world did he get the idea that God hates gays? It's just an outlet for his personal shortcomings. He'll blame anyone and anything other than himself for his unhappiness. What idiocy. It makes me wonder what this world is all about. Awful. I'm not gay, but I simply can't stand this Phelps crap. And he has followers! I saw them on TV. Yelling at the top of their lungs, spewing hatred. They are the embodiment of 'perversion'. Do they really think God supports their cause? Anyone who's read a gospel should've picked up on Jesus' unconditional love. I wish 'their' Jesus would please come back and save us from these blatant hate mongerers.

I totally agree, Chris L. This is a very distinct possibility. I was molested by a man when I was young. He was a refugee whom my parents sheltered and befriended, and that was how he repaid their kindess. 45 years later, I still feel sick when I remember him slobbering over me. I wasn't raped, but my experience left its mark. One thing for sure, he was working his way upot to rapng me. It just happened that I asked my brother if he was getting the same treatment ( We knew nothing about sex.) Mybrother thought it was funny ( he was very young) and went off laughing to mention it ot my mother. That was it. Mother took charge of the man, and the attacks ended. I was lucky. So, if Fred was raped by a gay, that would explain a lot of his behaviour. He insists that "Gays are violent" "Gays are lawless!" He also- and this is very revealing- states that it would be better for a child to be raped and murdered by a "straight" than to be placed in the care of a gay. Shudder! I think we've hit the bullseye here!
Also, his mother died when he was young, and he may have connected her "abandonment" with this incident, if the two occurred at a similar time. Who knows? All I can say is, regardless of what made him the way he is, he deserves our compassion.

Calling Fred Phelps a "Fag" is not saying "Gays Are Bad" it is calling the hater that which he despises. Just like the Youtube Video of Cho Seung (the V-Tech Killer) juxtaposed with music by known Richie, Paris Hilton. Its a diss. There are these types of people in Portland Oregon, and they gather at Pioneer Square with their stupid signs, they aren't the real WBC, just shabby immitators. Whenever I see them, I scream stuff like "PHELPS PHAGS, GO BACK TO TOPEKA KANSAS!" and "Gays are just your new n!993r, in 30 years none of us will even care!!!" and my favorite method of confusion, shouting "YOU'RE THE MAN NOW DOG!!!" repeatedly and as loud as possible... ^_^

In the past, Phelp's website has featured detailed descriptions of the "filth" that he personally uncovered on gay porn websites. The only way to gather such detailed and exhaustive information would be to spend many hours on these websites. It would seem that Phelps is what psychologists would refer to as a "latent homosexual with reaction formation" - someone who denies his own nature (even in the privacy of his own mind) and attempts to shield himself from conscious knowledge of this nature by distancing himself as much as possible from homosexual feelings that he cannot accept in himself - much in the same way a coward might go out of his way to cultivate a macho, fearless image, for example. To criticize Phelps in this manner is not to cirticize him for being gay, but rather to criticize him for his breathtaking hypocrisy.
