My friends, Bush is looking more like a lame duck every day. Even loyal Republicans are running away from him to save their skin in this election year. The Washington Post wrote an article on Bush's downfall today that must have turned the White House blue.
According to the article: Now, with his poll numbers in a political ditch, the port debacle has contributed to a perception of weakness that has liberated Republicans who once would never have dared cross Bush.
"He has no political capital," said Tony Fabrizio, a Republican pollster. "Slowly but surely it's been unraveling. There's been a direct correlation between the trajectory of his approval numbers and the -- I don't want to call it disloyalty -- the independence on the part of the Republicans in Congress."
The writing is on the wall, unfortunately Bush may be too dumb (or lazy) to read it.

That's great, but I hope some of you can give me some solace as to an alternative this year.
Remember two days ago in that Washington Post article where Nancy Pelosi said her party will have a campaign platform in a couple weeks? In that same article it was pretty evident as to why this is so essential, as a democratic governor said that eight months out from the midterm elections the current U.S. Democratic party has no message.
Well, on that same day on bloomberg.com there was this article with GREAT news!...if they win congress the dems are going to investigate the republicans! There were just a few troubling details, though. According to former DNC chairman Terry McAuliffe, troop withdrawal is off the table, because if the dems bring it up they'll lose. They plan to win the election on showing how much trouble Bush has gotten us into and how they'll fight the war on terror better.
Okay...
Yesterday, AFTER the Dubai decision to withdraw from the terminal project, Harry Reid, flanked by other democrat senators, called a press conference to demand a vote to block the deal. It was a moot issue but these supposedly well-informed senators were still trying to get a vote on it.
- The dems have no message. - They say, however, they'll campaign on how they would have/will fight the war on terro better than GWB. - Yet these guys who'll supposedly fight the war better are so ill-informed they call a press conference to demand a vote on something that's no longer even an option.
(I could understand even doing it to score political points but the networks cut away from the Dems big news to GWB signing the Patriot act extension...it made GWB look like a winner and made the dems look like they took a pie in the face.)
Seriously, give me a good reason to be optimistic about the dems platform this election year...if you want to say "It can't get any worse", yesterday's little episode makes me aware that it indeed can...

You should be VERY optimistic about the upcoming midterm elections. We finally have a real chance to change the direction that this great country has been going in under George W. Bush. Hooray! Look at what this man has done to America. On that one very special day (November 7, 2006), we really CAN make a difference. We can stand up, go to the polls, and put a stop to this. And what a glorious day that will be.

Based on the initial poster's comments, the direction the Dems take us might not be a good one...

At this point in time, given what we are now facing after five years of GOP control ... I'll definitely be voting Democrat to restore Balance and Power to our Federal Government.
The facts are simple - Bush is destroying America. Our military is stretched and demoralized within an inch of its life. Our economy is teetering as more and more jobs are exported every day, he has shredded the Constitution and wiped his ass with it.
Its time to neuter him once and for all. Vote Democrat its really the only sane choice.
