Have you noticed that the press keeps telling us that Americans support Bush's illegal surveillance efforts? The group Media Matters addresses this falsehood today in their daily report. The fact is, Americans don't want Bush and Cheney looking through the keyhole.

Wayne,
I never hear anyone worrying about being wiretapped out here (in the central United States, in a major metro area). I don't think most people really care out here, and frankly WANT anyone who's corresponding with terrorists to be monitored.

Right - but most people "Out there" want warrants, as much as anyone else. That is what we are asking for -- the simple rule of law. Unless, you think it is okay for government officials to be above the law and tap your phone on a whim.

I am not sure people want a president that feels he is above the laws that the rest of us are subject to. Bush basically feels he has the right to ignore the rule of law, on torture, habeus corpus or wiretapping. It's all on how the question is framed.
And anon(Kurt W?) by the time they ~are~ concerned, when the government wants to monitor their checking accounts, cell phone records, etc. it will be too late.
