Initially, it seemed that Bush was on the ball, with the FBI disrupting a sinister plot to blow up the Sears Tower and a federal building in Miami. The bust was conveniently timed to coincide with a Beltway debate over withdrawing troops in Iraq. It also followed the elimination of uber-terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, clearly showing momentum in the war on terror.
Upon closer inspection, this very public "bust" is nothing more than a
goofy gimmick and a public relations stunt to boost the Bush administration's sagging poll numbers. While it is great that these wannabe thugs were snagged off the streets, it is also clear that they were low level losers who were out of the loop. The only "contact" they had with Al Qaeda was the FBI agent posing as a terrorist. And these punks were so poor that they had to ask the undercover cop for "boots." This hardly is the American incarnation of Osama.
Of course, the FBI should be thanked for catching these clowns - but let's be honest, we bagged some Bozos. This incident should never have been elevated to front page news. At best, this story was worthy of maybe a blurb in the newspaper. All the breathless coverage of these nobody thugs accomplished was scaring Americans into likely making more stupid decisions - like further surrendering their civil liberties and staying in Iraq indefinitely.
Unless a prime terrorism suspect is apprehended or a major plot uncovered, why is it news? By crying wolf so many times, we erode America's readiness for the real deal.

Wayne, I can't tell you how embarrassing this is. When a few of these young black public housing dwellers were interviewed, they were so....I don't know the word.
They unfortunately remind me of the poor urban dupe who is a low level, petty drug dealer, but the big fish are living in the lavish suburbs and blend in ethnically with their neighbors.
Hiding in plain sight, the way the original 9/11 terrorists were in Florida.
I live in Los Angeles and worked for the LAPD in the photo unit.
Thousands and thousands of unaccounted for illegal aliens overstay visas, breach the border or chain immigrate through relatives and our government isn't invested or able to track most of them.
If they are looking for terror cells plotting a big to do right up there with 9/11...well..whoop fuc*ing do!
Children are being shot to death DAILY in Los Angeles because of gang warfare, much of which has illegal alien members.
The Latin American governments allow fugitive criminals to roam free and our stupid border situation facilitates their returning over and over again to commit more violence.
Not only that, the common identity theft and other frauds that plague our federal systems of banking and taxation complicates EVERYTHING for law enforcement.
The dots remain unconnected AGAIN, because the federal government keeps breaking the ability for agencies to work together effectively.
We wouldn't have to deport millions of people.
Why don't we just have the same system here that makes people leave wherever they came from?
NO benefits, NO jobs, NO looking the other way no matter what you do.
These dog and pony shows the President sets up for photo ops and chest beating sickens me.
I've attended I can't count anymore how many homicides, accidents, domestic violence or other criminal activity due to a crush of people here who we don't know, don't know where they are OR their intentions.
Even the Catholic church will not cooperate when it comes to criminal activity.
And without the real identities of who is here, we can't do any background checks or tracking of any kind.
Our county morgue is so overwhelmed, there is a serious public health situation occurring as we speak.
And now this stupid show of muscle on a small band of guys with little to do BUT discipline themselves for whatever.
THEY live in a war zone, to be sure.
That's life in the inner city.
The President and his ilk manage to make gay people out to be so dangerous, irredeemable and unwelcome that gay people aren't even fit to marry or have Constitutional protection already guaranteed.
But he's willing to break ALL manner of rules, court treason and break his neck to accomodate illegal aliens who EVERYDAY make our city streets war zones.
If over 16, 800 homicides in a single year doesn't sound like the national casualties of our nation's acceptance of violence, he's not looking at the real enemy of national security.

I was watching CNN this morning. When the news report said that "none of the men had any weapons or money", I knew that we had been snookered again. These guys were going to destroy the Sears Tower? With what, a palm tree?
