Alan Chambers, president of Exodus International, has a new book, "God's Grace And the Homosexual Next Door: A Guide to Overcoming Barriers And Misunderstandings, Getting to Know the Real Person, Offering God's New Life."

I can't wait to read the book in the coming weeks and weed out the lies, if only my computer hard drive has enough room to store all of them! Chambers, while a pleasant man, has always had serious character flaws when it comes to truth-telling, honesty and integrity. In preparing for his new book, I listened to an interview I had with him for my own book, "Anything But Straight," and found this little gem.

"I used to steal," confessed Chambers. "I was very consumed with and, I loved things, I loved money and I used to steal it."

"Based on his dishonest reign at Exodus, it appears a leopard can't change his spots any more than a gay man can become heterosexual through prayer and therapy," remarked Wayne Besen, Executive Director of Truth Wins Out, a non-profit organization that counters the so-called "ex-gay" industry.

That wouldn't be honest. That would be a lie. To say it honestly, you would have to say that some gay men have recloseted themselves due to the societal pressure brought about by religious weirdos.

To add to what Tom said, we can all control our BEHAVIOR, but not our attractions. All reputable research bears this out.

For example, the ancient Greeks and all other societies that accepted homosexuality, provided for men to marry but the wife was property only and a producer of an heir(s).

Why not be honest and admit that the therapies pushed by Exodus are ineffective and harmful and that gay people only ever feel the desire to become straight because of external forces that condemn and belittle them for being different?

How little you understand about homosexuality. How little you understand about sexuality in general! If you understood, you would know that sexuality is an expression of gender, and Gay people have a different gender identity than Straight people. Your physicality, your genitals, those do not determine your gender identity. The soul determines it. You believe people have souls, don't you? If you do, then you must believe in God. The existence of LGBT people is evidence that God makes some souls different from others. He has a Divine purpose for doing so. Humankind cannot interfere with what is Divine. When men can pray themselves into being women, and therapy can change a woman into a man, then and only then will Lesbians and Gay men be able to change their gender identity and become heterosexual. If you want to hold your breath waiting for that to happen, go ahead. Just remember, when you start turning blue, it's time to breathe again.

I am fed up with these ex-gay, ex-sinner types who try to coerce us with their miraculous tales of conversion. "I used to be like you once. I used to be tripped out on meth, and a thief, and a homosexual who had seventy partners in a month and collected five different STDs. But then I found THE LORD and all was right in the world." They assume that conversion will work for you, they assume that you were as fucked up as they were. Well guess what? Most GLBT people are NOT that messed up. And that some people succumb to many problems seems to make them easy prey for these faux-religious groups out to make a buck or a name for themselves.

I try not to be poudful and boastful but those of us who are living good, honest and happy lives have a duty to let other GLBT peoples know.
I am so grateful to my lord Jesus Christ for being gay.
I am blessed with a wonderful life, great husband,11 years, a dream of a home, rewarding and exciting career, and a deep and meaningful faith. We are surrounded by our loving families and friends, and we have many young gay men and women who look up to us.
I'm so blessed, of course it's been work but I have never wanted to change my orientation, never.
I know that happiness and self-respect is increasing in the lives of my gay brothers and sisters.
This life is possible, choose happiness, hetrosexulals lives can be as rewarding and full as our gay brothers and sisters.
The future is full of promise and hope.

Absolutely true. Of course, it's also not clear whether or not some men can flap their arms and fly through prayer and/or therapy. But just because two people might make that claim doesn't mean I should jump off a cliff with my arms flapping.

And to the best of my knowledge exactly two ex-gays claim to have gone from being attracted to guys and guys only to being attracted to women and women only. Most "struggle" with their same-sex attraction and if they do forge an attraction to their wife, she is the exception.

So, I don't accept the testimony of two people (both of whom are disreputable)as an indication that "some gay men can become straight through prayer and/or therapy". I'd as soon believe they can fly.

But you're right.. it's not clear.

I believe a dialogue is two rational people discussing their differences in debate. I don't believe it's a random individual telling someone anonymously to "grow the fuck up."

Maybe it's time for a Second Edition of "Anything But Straight". There's been plenty of argument on here and I am sure in other places, since Wayne's book first came out. Plenty of discussion. But has even ONE credible account of change of desire/orientation emerged anywhere? Not on here, that's for sure!

An updated edition of "Anything But Straight" could look at responses in the intervening time and also explore Throckmorton, Van Den Aardweg, and Elizabeth Moberly, in detail.

(Incidentally folks, it all seems awfully quiet on the Moberly front. She has been adduced so strongly in the past by the "reparative therapy" mob, but there seems to be nothing new from her and her writing had no science behind it anyway. These days, though, the mob are quiet about Moberly....).

Mind you, you'd think after "Anything But Straight" was published, Throckmorton, Moberly, Van Den Aardweg, Nicolosi, Berger, et al would have rushed to attempt rebuttal, which they could do most effectively by producing scientifically acceptable evidence of persons whose desire changed. That they have not, speaks volumes - so perhaps another volume from Wayne is not needed!

It is 100% clear that NO gay man has EVER become straight through prayer and "therapy." As one who endured almost 20 years of that bullshit, I can assure you there is not one piece of scientific evidence of anyone on earth ever changing sexual orientations. And it is 100% possible to prove it if it ever happens. But it HAS NOT ever happened. Never. Ever. Anywhere.

To be HONEST means to tell it like it is. No gay man has ever become straight. Any gay man who says he has is simply lying. He can subject himself to scientific tests to prove his change VERY easily, but no gay man has EVER done this. EVER. ANYWHERE.

"Ex-gays" do not exist. Anywhere.
Never have and never will. All they have to do it prove what they say.

Aside from all this, the alleged "ex-gays" also can not prove that anyone anywhere was EVER harmed by anyone being gay. That ALSO remains to be proven. It won't be, because it's a moronic notion.

To be fair, I think a lot of guys who claim to have become straight thru prayer or therapy are not intentionally lying. They are just in denial. They cannot accept failure, so they deny it to themselves. Folks like this Chamber guy just help poor people feel pressured and angry at themselves when the therapy goes wrong. It's his fault and people like him. Maybe he wants to be straight, but if he wants to HONEST as is the word of the day, he would have to admit that he is just faking it..

Whenever I'm approached by persons bent on my religious conversion so I can "straighten out my life" I respond with my favorite quote and question from Robert Ingersoll, "What joy is there in Heaven for the mother of an unrepentent sinner?" ... "If one gets used to pain, and one gets bored with pleasure, what meaning is there in a promise of an eternity that delivers either?"
Usually after the "deer in headlights" look leaves their face we have sex and they never call.

well, anonymous, I agree God can answer any prayer He wants, and if it's His will, a gay man can be changed (note the word - changed) into a straight man, if He deems there to be a reason.

As a Christian, and also being gay, I take affront to anyone suggesting I'm broken for being gay. They're so arrogant in their thinking. We are all sinners for our lies, our misdeeds, our JUDGEMENTS, our bitchiness, and for some, many worse things, but being sexual (gay or straight) and loving someone with respect for them and their body, as you would want for you & your body is NOT a sin!

And, frankly, if some really hot bois I know were to hit on Chambers, he'd cave. lol..

Oh, who am I kidding, he probably has every week.

Most gay men are not theives, prostitutes, or pathological liars. Most gay men have healthy lives and healthy psyches. Most gay men live as long as straight men. People like Chambers focus on the weakest of the weak among the homosexual community. They are parasites that cling to already broken people and tend to break them more. They prey on the weak and uneducated. They prey on people who need a hand up. If they think that this horrid disgusting guilt mongering is going to secure a place for them in heaven, I got news for them. The devil is opening the door wide.

There is no such thing as a gay lifestyle, but I know what you mean. The thing is that I know of no person who has tried to be straight who isn't out there preaching that we all should do it in order to be OK and happy. Which I guess is a good thing for the people of whom you speak. It means they are not jerks and they are not in heavy denial.

My question is, and it's a question that I've asked before but didn't get a good answer, Why would they want to change? Just one example...Just one reason. I still cannot grasp why a person would not be happy with who he is unless an outside influence tells him he shouldnt be.

He is so silly in his warped analogies that always tie his negativity of any kind under the sun to his homosexuality while at the same time saying he is no longer homosexual. His mentality is like that of a third grade boy who just found out his penis is for more that urintating. He is stuck on the physical aspects of homosexual expression and offers nothing but harm to those like himself. You are and have always been a champion bringing the hypocrisy of these silly tarts to the forefront.
