EXCLUSIVE YOUTUBE VIDEO EXAMINES RELIGIOUS RIGHT'S 'DAY OF TRUTH'

'Day of Truth' Promotes Shame and Pushes 'Ex-Gay' Conversion Therapy In Public Schools, Says Filmmaker Daniel Gonzales

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Truth Wins Out unveiled a new video today on YouTube examining the "Day of Truth" which aims to push gay youth into 'ex-gay' conversion programs. In response to GLSEN's "Day of Silence" where gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth remain silent to protest the silencing effect discrimination and harassment has on LGBT youth, the far right Alliance Defense Fund created a "Day of Truth" one day after the pro-gay "Day of Silence."

"The 'Day of Truth' is nothing but an elaborate attempt by right wing groups to push junk psychology and bad-theology on gay youth," says Daniel Gonzales who helped write and narrate the video. Gonzales is a former patient of 'ex-gay' therapist and NARTH president Joseph Nicolosi.

The religious right sells their "Day of Truth" as a compassionate message of truth but this film examines how the real message being pushed at this event is neither compassionate nor truthful.

I really can't get over this imperious attitude that the promoters of Day of Truth have.
It's as if there is no room for REALITY, howver much they make claims on the truth.
They don't care about what GAY people do, say...or the urgency of the actions on Day of Silence. Rather than engage on why Day of Silence even started, or the part in it, religion plays for it's formation, they'd rather continue the status quo as if it's new.

Their motives, as if to say that it's from compassion and love is so much bullshit, when a kid's t-shirt says 'shame' and 'condemned'.

You can't turn words like that into something else, or dilute it's meaning and value and tell people the real weight of it, isn't there.

The ADL putting up young people to this, or at least DEFENDING it, and calling a challenge to it discrimination either against religion on the expression of it, is very different from what the results of this is for gay students.

That Harper kid won't be subjected to bullying, or violence from HIS family, nor the community.
And obviously he can't take challenge, let alone a REAL threat to his safety and right to expression.

He isn't even being taught the difference between what a threat to rights and freedom really is.
And a morally clear person would.
Be that as it may, there is something creepy about the gentle tones in which the Day of Truth organizers and supporters go about the business of saying that gays and lesbians, in effect, deserved to be wiped from the face of the earth.
And no efforts to prove character, function, talent and compassion and the brave souls of gay young people will make a bit of difference.

THAT is prejudice, and bigotry. And religious principle has been used before to justify or maintain it in our institutions, like schools.

I won't forget the high concept, well produced black and white films that featured good looking, healthy children as the future and that it was compassionate and practical for these youth to believe, that those with physical handicaps or other signs of social dysfuncion, such as homosexuality....the right thing to do, was to euthanize them.

I watched those Nazi films in which a smooth voice spoke of how undesireable and without merit to society such people had.
And I don't see any difference between that, and what Day of Truth is saying.

And if these pretty young white people saw the same Nazi propaganda films too, I wonder if they would recognize themselves in them.

And if any of them took offense at the comparison, LET THEM.
It's for REAL...
There is nothing loving and compassionate about wanting to see an entire class of people DISAPPEARED.

Actually Anon...the ADF are making a big issue out of the t-shirt. Taking the case to the Supreme Court.
THEY feel it's representative enough for THEIR cause. There is (are) an entire legal counsel and organizations around Christians who specifically look to gay people as their favorite target.
Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and the FRC ALL have law schools or advocates for the express purpose of making gay lives miserable.

If there are Christians who don't like being lumped in with the ChristianISTS, than in the arena of gay equality, they are difficult to find.
The ADF, their mission is in the DEFENSE of Christians.
Can you name Christians in AMerica whose lives have been so violated and compromised in such a way a gay kid's life is?
And when Christians like the ADF go into action, it's to go against what they think are issues exclusively regarding gay people and what ever progress HAS been made.
Any laws that are protective of gay lives and jobs and educational careers, are seen by them as a big, bad, 'homosexual agenda.'
How does ANYONE take offense at a group of people who don't want to arbitrarily lose precisely what they have a RIGHT to?
As GUARANTEED by this country.
How does anyone who proclaims a Christian identity agree with it?
Of course, your point is not ALL Christians don't feel this way against gay people.
But perhaps these are the types of people who think that if they PERSONALLY haven't acted badly against a gay person. Or done anything deliberate, it's enough.
Well, it's passive.
It's not also doing more and as much as needed.

This is SUCH a tremendously contentious issue, it needs STRONGER allies and support.
Kindness is fine, civility is too.

But the intensity of the hostility, and the power out there requires more.
I have, thankfully, seen change. But it's in painful increments, and the situation just doesn't have time.
The end of segregation in so many ways, came too late.
In some ways, the concept of sin, or morals as how a human being must be treated, comes in the conflicts those in religious leadership have.
They are not so rigorous on the standards regarding divorce and adultery (which clearly are destructive to relationships) as they are with homosexuality (which has no equivalent to the former.)
The websites of all the organizations I mentioned, barely give any time to divorce, adultery or child abandonment.
Much of what they do IS devoted to the political and legal isolation of gay people.

Very recently, one of the most powerful Jewish entities allowed openly gay and lesbian students to enter rabbinical colleges and for officiants to preside at same gender weddings.

The Jewish mind has a few differences from the Christian one.
Jews are never certain of anything, and believe that ONLY openness and access to full information and experience will give them more options to REALLY be sure.
That's what's so remarkably impossible about the most powerful Christians in America.
They believe they ARE certain. There is NOTHING more to be learned about homosexuality, except to eliminate it.
Many Christian supporters who were in positions of leadership, were defrocked, voted out of their jobs...or in some other way, put in a closet too.

I agree, I know for sure, that there are very good, and well informed and brave Christians out there.
The only problem is...it doesn't seem like ENOUGH of them.

But your statement was fair, in any case.
But Daniel did say 'religious right' which one could translate into meaning and defining the most conservative of them.

Actually Regan there are churches that are supportive of gays. You should go to www.gaychurch.org and see for yourself. I was amazed that in the same country you have groups like ADF and AFA and AFTAH. You also have close to 4100 gay friendly congregations in this country that is more than even Europe with its gay friendly population. And I feel that this growth will only accelerate as in 2009 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will release its sexuality study which includes its study on the homosexual issue. I believe that this will allow conservatives in the ELCA to see the truth at how their discriminatory policies are hurting real people, and that they need to re-evaluate them. I also think this study will help the ELCA avoid the schism that has rocked the Anglican Church and the United Church of Christ.

Adam, my brother...I know that. Which is the only reason I haven't given up.
I belong to several gay friendly and inclusive multi denominational advocate groups. They are not only inclusive, but ADVOCATE for gay equality.
I'm pretty sure you've trusted me on that all along, right?
