I don't mind drag queens, but in a way I feel these overly flamboyant queens like in the picture is why we have such a bad rap from society as gay people.

I think most reasonably educated people know by now that most gay people dont dress or act that way; but societies need a 'trickster' element to show what neurotic roles we've all been forced to play. I appreciate outrageous iconoclastic people who stick it to 'the man'. Humor and camp are directly proportional to how free a society is---you would never be able to see this in a totalitarian regime, whether religious or political.

Newsflash: the press always picks outrageous drag queens or defiant leather types with buttocks and/or penises hanging out because that's what people want to see. In other words, that's news! Every day, normal looking, button down types, i.e., most of us, are not news. I almost got into a fist fight here in Indy with a local TV commentator for bringing out the freaks on TV instead of putting on a few more "acceptable candidates." As he snarled back at me then, "normal" looking and acting gays don't improve ratings, which we were out the roof with his freak parade, which included cross dressers and child molesters, which most of his dumb ass audience equated with the entire gay community. Woe is us!
