"Ex-gay" group Exodus International swears they love gay people when in front of the mainstream media. When talking to their right wing base or Christian media, however, they don't sound quite so loving.
Truth Wins Out's latest video, "The Two-Faced Love of Exodus International" shows a series of mean-spirited clips from Exodus International's TV show "Pure Passion."
Within the first fifteen minutes of the show, the hosts repeatedly denigrate the lives and families of GLBT people - referring to them as perverse or sexually broken. Exodus may talk a good game, but the truth is, their disdain for openly gay people does not lie far below their surface professions of love. In essence, when they say they "love" gay people, they are bearing false witness.

So what's really funny is that I can't tell if some of those people in that video are men or women.
And it reminds me of when South Park mocked conversion therapy by portraying a "former-homosexual" as super flaming, lisping and prancing around all over while claiming to have turned straight.
Not, of course, that there is anything wrong with flaming queens, I know many of them who are dear friends and I wouldn't change a thing about 'em.
But it's very interesting to me that so many of those nutballs who say they aren't gay anymore are so - well - faggy!
It's like, who are you kidding, pal?!?
My theory: gays and lesbians who are less obvious have the option of hiding it from the outside world. They can suffer in silence, live a lie, fool their friends and family.
But those who are naturally very androgynous, flaming, dikey, flamboyant, whatever - it would be more analogous to skin color, immediately identifiable visually by others. They can't hide it. Their family and friends notice it, and if they grow up around homophobic people they would constantly be getting judged and commented about, and simply hiding it wouldn't be realistic.
Thus hiding might not be an option, so they have to openly make an effort to "change" and become one of these ridiculous "ex-gays" and parade themselves around.
That Alen Chambers has got to be one of the lispiest, candied, pansy-ass sissy-type faggots I've ever seen...well, Sie Rogers is even worse.
I too respect my femme brothers and think they are beautiful people just the way they are. But for some flaming queer to try to say he is now straight? These people don't even get close to passing. They are gayer than the Fab 5 on Queer Eye!!
Do these morons know how utterly ridiculous they look? Do they have any idea that they are a parody of themselves. Do they realize that the people in church mock them the moment they turn their sissy backs?
This Chambers is nothing more than a loser clown. My heart goes out the queen. He has no idea he is a court jester and a pawn for the religious right. When he goes out with his wife, can they tell who is the guy?
What is most curious to me is the position of Exodus' President that "sexual orientation" can't be changed, or probably can't be changed or some verbiage like that. Why would anyone want to attempt to therapize away something that can't be changed? As Oscar Madison once said, "Don't tinker, Felix!"

I agree with others here who say that Exodus's video almost seems like a bad episode of some b-grade sitcom. This picture is laughable! Do they not even see themselves as they appear? They are a group of limp-wristed, lisping, effeminate queens who can barely say, "I overcome homosexality" with a straight face (pun intended!). And does anyone notice how Alan Chambers "freezes up" and puts on a "pasted-on" smile when he's in front of the camera? I could be wrong, but he seems to be thinking, "OK, it's really important to look straight and happy right now!" Ah, what a shame.

Ok folks, as willing as I am to go there ;), let's try and keep it above the belt. There's plenty of merit to attack here.
If they want to be ex-gay, so be it, but I think it's essential that we focus on the political gambit of their motives.
They're literally convinced that it's a sin to think it's ok to be gay. The real "sin" is that they're trying to convince everyone else that WE'RE sinful for not thinking so.

A must read: June 25th issue of New York magazine--article on 'gaydar'--more dramatic research that supports the biological basis for homosexuality. Does the whorl of hair on the top of your head spin counterclockwise=gay or clockwise=straight? Another nail in the coffin of the "ex-gay", "it's a choice" crowd!

Emproph, even if they stopped targeting the rest of us, they would still be putting the people within their subculture and sphere of direct influence in danger and filling their heads with lies.
Even if no politican ever used their b.s. to oppress the rest of us, they would still be emotionally abusing their gay children and followers.
So my concern over the ex-gay movement does not stop at how their political dealings affect me personally. It's not okay that they're brainwashing people, and nothing can ever make it okay. They're damaging people and they need to be stopped.

Rygar I agree with you. All I'm saying is that if we're going to attack them for their ostensibly gay looks and demeanor, then it's important that we link it to those points that you very eloquently mentioned - so that it doesn't come across as just name-calling.
