As you know, on November 4 the state of California passed a constitutional amendment reversing a State Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that legalized same-sex marriage...and huge and numerous protests have sprung up, certainly in California, but also nationwide. There are two scheduled in New York City this week. I will be at both - starting this evening outside the Mormon Temple in Manhattan:
Protest at the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) Temple in Manhattan 125 Columbus Avenue at 65th Street Wednesday, November 12 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The other is at City Hall Saturday, November 15, 1:30 p.m.

I am going to BOTH of these two protests also, because I need something to legitimize my anger over Proposition 8. How could any of us claim to be truly anguished or outraged by this abomination and then be unwilling to rearrange our schedules in order to give a mere two hours at a time, on a couple of days this week, in order to make a statement about justice and equality?
Personally, I am not comfortable with protests or with large crowds, for that matter. I'm not a shouter, and I won't be shouting at these protests. However, I will be showing up so that I WILL BE COUNTED. I want to be one of those people who can say yes, I was there to stand against this. I encourage others, shouters or non-shouters, to do the same.

I'll be there along with some friends from way upstate who are driving down just to be there. We should all make an effort, no matter what. We have just at much at stake in our own state. I only wish our state would do what Connecticut did, make sure that no antigay intiative made it onto an election ballot, smart move Connecticut and today is a day of celebration in that state where our fellow gay brothers and sisters will be able to apply for a marriage license. Bittersweet indeed.

You're anger regarding Prop 8 is certainly understandable and reasonable. What is not reasonable is your focus on the Mormon Church. The frustration should be focused on the State. This is a constitutional issue not a voting issue. The Church the same rights as everyone else in this country. Note - I am not Mormon. I simply ask that individual rights be respected. I don;t concur with their beliefs but the are entitled to their beliefs just as the g/l communities are entitles to theirs. Please read my blog concerning this issue:
