In the aftermath of Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) leaving the Republican Party, there is a real war within the GOP. Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) wrote an op-ed in today's New York Times.
"We can't continue to fold our philosophical tent into an umbrella under which only a select few are worthy to stand. Rather, we should view an expansion of diversity within the party as a triumph that will broaden our appeal. That is the political road map we must follow to victory."
Essentially, she was telling social conservatives to take a hike. The subtext of this message was shape up, or Snowe might also ship out - leaving New England virtually Republican-free at the federal level.
I just read on Huffington Post, that only about 21% of the population identify themselves as republicans and except for the south (of course), this number continues to shrink, especially in the Northeast (yea!!). During the waning years of the utterly catastrophic bush administration, I always wondered who these brain-dead 20 to 25% of the population were, who still gave him a favorable rating and approved of the republican agenda, right up to the bitter end. The above stat. answers the question!

Oh gee. Ya think? Has there been some deprogramming going on these last one hundred days since the devil went back to Texas? NOPE. These scumballs want to keep their job. It is as simple as that. I still say there is very little difference between democans and repuglycrotchs.

I don't see the Grand Obstructionist Party ever changing its core values or beliefs. It will now have to rely on its far right extremists and religious bigots for support that will only polarize their party and possibly see its eventual demise. I wonder what the Log Cabiners will do now with the Rush Limbaughs, Sean Hannity's acting as spokesmen for their party? They are a party in exile in the wilderness where they will remain if they don't lighten up and get with the 21st century. I doubt if the Log Cabiners will have any significant impact on them either.
