Please join me in attending a rally in Midtown Manhattan for the freedom to marry. The New York House just passed a marriage bill last night. It is now in the hands of the Senate. And if you are not political, there will be more stars than a planetarium to keep you occupied.

Join: Audra McDonald, Cheyenne Jackson, Cynthia Nixon, David Hyde Pierce, Kristin Davis, Senator Tom Duane, Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell, The Cast of "Hair" and many more!
The best place for people to enter is at 45, 46, and 47th Street on the West Side. The rally will take place at the corner of 45th and Avenue of the Americas.

This is the second time the bill passed the Assembly. Unless Malcom Smith can get a small number of republicans on board, its not going to fly. I think Paterson is right though. Bring it to the senate floor for a vote this year and if it fails and probably will, we'll get a better idea about the people who voted against it and then we can concentrate on fierce lobbying to get rid of them or demand that Smith confront them head on. If Spitzer had still been Governor, I think we might have had a better chance, Spitzer was never afraid of confrontation, say what you like about him. Thanks to him, we have marriage equality legislation drafted, one of the first things he did when he was elected in keeping with his campaign promises, a first for any state governor.

Besen : Of course I want New York to follow in the footsteps of Iowa and Maine, but why are you coming here to do this? Shouldn't you be working on Florida? I think this is for us NY guys to take care of ourselves (Ruben Diaz and followers on one side, Danny O'Donnell, etc., on the other) without outside help.

Joey: I will tell you why Wayne is there in your state. It's because he is a unifying force in the gay rights movement, he is a PR success both in the gay and straight worlds, he is literate and writes and speaks incredibly well, he is well informed on all issues, and is a great poster man for our cause. Quit being provincial as to who is and who is not allowed to play in your turf. The evangelicals don't play that game when they fight against our cause. In other words, GROW UP!

Joey, Wayne has every right to be here in our state, he lives here and pays taxes here too. In my book, that entitles him to be here. We need all the help we can get to obtain full equality. I don't care where people are from. Next you'll be saying that all Presidents have to be born in Washington DC. Lambda Legal, HRC and others help other states where they have no chapters, do you think they shouldn't help them? You're wrong.
